Dispensing diluted semen into the flexitube

Place the diluted semen container into dispensing holder

Place the flexitubes into the flexitube holders

Pour 80 ml of semen into each flexitube.  Try to dispense onto the edge of the tube

Note if semen is dispensed from any height the diluted semen will froth, and this can interfere with the sealing process

Seal the flexitubes using the heat sealer.  Double sealing may be necessary if inaccurate sealing occurs

Initially check the quantity of diluted semen in each flexitube by weighing 5 tubes and average the weight

Place a label on each of the flexitubes

Place labelled flexitubes into the 17°C thermo-cabinet or semen storage room

For larger studs automated machines are available

Dispensing diluted semen into the cochette/flatpack with sealing

These require the easy opening cochette

1

Set up the dispensing equipment with the cochette roll

2

Place the diluted semen container into dispensing holder

3

Pour 80 ml of semen into each flatpack.

4

Sealing occurs automatically if the dispensing machine is correctly set up

5

Initially check the quantity of diluted semen in each flatpack by weighing 5 tubes and average the weight

6

Place a label on each of the flatpack

7

Place labelled flatpack into the 17°C thermo-cabinet or semen storage room

For larger studs automated machines are available.

Protocols for both their use and cleaning will be required to be written following their instructions. Provided by the manufacturer.

Dispensing diluted semen into the cochette/flatpack

without sealing

Place the 6 cochette bags onto the hooks

3

Pour 80 ml of semen into each flatpack.

4

Remove the flatpack.  Turn over the end of each bag and ‘seal’ with a paper clip

5

Initially check the quantity of diluted semen in each flatpack by weighing 5 tubes and average the weight

6

Place a label on each of the flatpack

7

Place labelled flatpack into the 17°C thermo-cabinet or semen storage room.  They can be stored lying down as leakage is rare.
