Effective management of the isolation is vital to ensuring the
health of the pigs. The following advice sheets may be useful:

- Ensure health status of supply animals is
as required
- Check the health status of the supply farm
before moving animals out of isolation
- The isolation premises should be situated
off-farm
- The isolation area should have its own
perimeter fence with lockable entrances and loading ramp
- The isolation facility must have its own
clothing and boots together with boot washing facilities
- Unit security arrangements as for the main
unit must be adhered too.
- Incoming stock must remain in isolation for
at least 6-8 weeks
- Place the grower/finisher and cull adult
animals in adjacent pens within the isolation premises
- Immunize all incoming stock to a similar
status as adult animals on the main unit
- The isolation premises must be examined
after all the main unit has been examined. Re-enter main unit
only after shower and change of clothing
- When incoming stock leave their pens to
enter the main herd, pressure wash and disinfect their pens
- Watch animals carefully during the period
of isolation for any sign of disease. Immediately inform the
unit vet
