During collection sessions

1

Immediately after the boar has left the collection area and has been returned to his pen start cleaning the collection area

2

Swill the room out making sure you get all the gel off the floor and walls using the pressure washer set at 300 psi

3

Ensure the collection stool is also cleaned thoroughly

End of collection sessions

1

The room must be thoroughly swilled down

2

The non-slip mats are to be raised and cleaned.  Place mats over the protections bars to dry

3

The floor must be thoroughly pressure washed and disinfected

4

The collection stool must be spotlessly clean after the end of the collection session using the pressure washing

5

If movable safety bars are used to cross the doorway, they must be lifted out completely and washed thoroughly

Weekly cleaning/maintenance routines

Photographs of a variety of collection areas:

Collection area with good safety precautions. The collection stool is up against the wall.

Collection area floor covered with sawdust.  Note: the collector has a mobile stool.

Simple on-farm AI set-up.

Collection area is corner of pen. Floor slatted a boars liable to slip  Carpet cover for collection stool, impossible to clean.  Note: stool in corner.

Central multi-height collection stool with titled floors. The central collection stool allowed the boars to mount from either side.

Detail of collection stool with arms.  There are mixed views about side arms.  Can be easier to train boars.

On small farms or with very valuable boars who will not work on a stool the boar can be collected while mounting a sow in heat.  There are obvious health as safety issues.

Collection stool covered with sow skin.  Possible disease risk but farm claimed boars easier to train and work

This collection stool is very close to the end wall with very untidy covering.  There was a chin rest for the boar!

This collection area has no safety area for the stockperson. The collection stool is made from a wooden log.

A mobile collection stool. Useful for boar training or small farms.  Should be avoided on larger studs for safety reasons.
