Nursery
Room Layout Changes
Basics:
A pig to 30 kg (66lbs) requires 0.3 m2
(3.2 m2). It requires one
nipple drinker to 10 pigs or one water bowel to 20 pigs or one turkey drinker
to 40 pigs (to 15 kg). Feed space requirement
at weaning is 100 mm (4 inches) per pig for the first 3 days, afterwards 50 mm
(2 inches) per pig to 30 kg (66 lbs).
Air movement should be less than 0.2 m-2 (50 feet per minute)
in the sleeping area. Ambient air
temperature in the sleeping area should be 30C (86F) at weaning to 24C (75F) at 30 kg. The remainder of the house can remain at 24C
(75F) through out the 6-7 weeks of growth – this will enhance feed intake.
