Aural Haematoma
Characterized by a swelling of the external pinna (ear). The swelling is soft and fluctuated. The swelling is associated with blood leaking under the skin of the ear. The condition is associated with head shaking – fighting and mange are important predisposing factors. |

Treatment is varied depending on the farm |

Do nothing – the lesion with resolve with time, but the ears can be very heavy and they may become infected |

ear has healed after the resolution of the blood clot |

Open the ear, but there is a risk of the pig bleeding to death if the internal bleeding has not stopped |

Placing a band around the base of the ear and the ear will drop off. |
